Kerala govt sets up Science Institute to foster researches

CM of Kerala inaugurated an institution in Kottayam to foster research in science and mathematics.

Chief Minister of Kerala inaugurated an institution in Kottayam to foster research in science and mathematics. The Srinivasa Ramanujan Institute for Basic Sciences (SRIBS) has been designed as a higher-level capacity building initiative by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).
The Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said, "This research-centric institution came into being at a time when the state is witnessing an upsurge of interest' in science education." Inaugurating the institute, the CM said, "We need to look at the future, provide facilities for world class research and implement globally accepted quality parameters." He also vowed to provide facilities for world class research in Kerala.
The institute is housed at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Technology campus at Kottayam and will offer training in the frontier areas of sciences, through winter and summer schools. It will conduct webinars and web-based interaction between eminent scientists in different areas of science across the globe. Chandy also opened a national colloquium on crystallography at the institute.
